Tottenham Hotspur overcame Middlesbrough in their FA Cup 3rd round replay on Tuesday night and Erik Lamela’s brilliant individual goal proved to be the winner.

The footage of the former Roma player’s strike has served as a timely reminder of just what the Argentinian star is capable of.

After the club’s official Twitter account shared the footage with their followers, a number of them rushed to share their immediate reactions with many of them sharing their delight for the South American.

Can Erik Lamela go on to play a big-part in the Mourinho era?

Yes

Yes

No

No

One fan even suggested that he finished like Gareth Bale in the club’s 2-1 win over Arsenal back in 2013, which is true as can be seen in footage involving the former Spurs star’s goal.

What do we think?

Lamela is undoubtedly a talented individual but he hasn’t always lived up to his full potential in Spurs colours. The Lilywhites paid £27m for the 27-year-old back in August 2013 according to Transfermarkt.co.uk and he’s scored just 33 goals for the club since that big-money move.

The right-winger, by trade, has also provided 44 assists for his teammates and showed flashes of his brilliance in front of a crowd of 49,202 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – staking his claim for a place in Jose Mourinho’s preferred starting eleven.

If the Argentinian can stay fit, there is no doubt he can be an asset to the squad – however, injuries have been an issue throughout his career and so you can understand the reluctance to rely on him.
