Some Southampton fans are making it clear that they will be happy to see Cedric Soares leave the club in the ongoing January transfer window.
Mike McGrath from the Telegraph has reported recently that Arsenal are looking to make a move to sign Saints right-back Cedric in the ongoing January window, with Southampton looking to accept offers of around £6 million to get some return on the fee they paid Sporting Lisbon almost five years ago.
Can Walker-Peters replace Cedric?
He's an upgrade!
No, not yet
Many Saints fans paid heed to this piece of news. Many made it clear that they will be happy with the move if the club gets the Kyle Walker-Peters deal over the line.
Take the money, he’s off in the summer anyway. Might as well get some money for him. #SaintsFC

Been unreal last month or so,
If we get rid of Cedric and loan in walker peters all we’ve done is get worse and have the same amount of depth— Alex (@_AlexLee02) January 28, 2020

Makes sense

I’d rather we kept hold of him until the summer now, if Valery’s had glandular fever as has been suggested, there’s no way he’s going to have the energy to play PL football until next season. Gives us time to assess KWP properly.

Or wait 6 months and get him for free?

Southampton had signed Cedric from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2015. Since then, he has made 138 appearances in all competitions for the Saints and has scored three times and has assisted 11 times.
So far this season, Cedric has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has a tally one goal and one assist. He has featured in all of the club’s last 12 Premier League clashes, helping them beat Tottenham, Chelsea and Leicester City.
Last season, Cedric was on loan at Serie A giants Internazionale, where he made nine appearances in all competitions and racked up two assists for the Nerazzurri.
What do we think?
If Southampton do sign Walker-Peters on loan this month, they can afford to let Cedric go. The Portuguese’s contract runs out in the summer of 2020, meaning they can’t let him leave on a free transfer and accrue losses. Selling him at this point will make sense if the Tottenham man arrives.
