Premier League side Southampton are set to keep striker Danny Ings at the club in January, despite speculation linking him with a move to Man United.

While Ings was linked with a move to Manchester United on deadline day, with the Telegraph (via the Metro) claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men did make an approach for the Englishman recently.

But Radio Solent’s Adam Blackmore tweeted out information about Ings, saying that United didn’t make any attempt to sign the Saints striker. He also went onto tweet that Tottenham also hadn’t made an offer to sign Saints midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this month.

Can Southampton sell Ings in the summer?

Blackmore also confirmed that none of the two players will leave the club before Friday’s deadline.

A star at Southampton

So far this season, Ings has been in impressive form for Southampton. He has scored 16 times in all competitions, while playing only 27 games. In the Premier League, the Englishman has scored 14 goals in only 24 games.

Last season wasn’t as impressive for the former Burnley striker. He made 25 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring eight goals and racking up three assists. He found the net only seven times in the Premier League and got three assists.

It was only in the summer of 2019 that his move to Southampton was made permanent for a fee of £18m plus £2m in add-ons.

TIF Tactics

Ings’ numbers clearly show how crucial he is to Southampton. Without his goals, the Saints may not have been in the upper half of the league. It would have been very tough for any club to replace a player like Ings in January and not letting him go was the right thing to do.
