Some Celtic fans have made it clear that they want to see their former midfielder Stuart Armstrong come back to the club as soon as possible.

Currently at Southampton, Armstrong spoke about his former side in a recent interview. He was talking to the Daily Echo about his life in Southampton and he revealed that he still keeps up to date with Celtic results. The Scotland midfielder also said that Saints loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi has done very well since joining Celtic on loan.

Celtic fans: Do you want Armstrong back?

Why not? He's a cracking player

Never, move on

Never, move on

Hoops’ fan page CelticBible posted Armstrong’s comments in their latest post. Many Hoops fans urged the midfielder to come back to the club soon.

One fan, though, couldn’t help but mention that he felt Armstrong made a swift departure from Celtic Park and perhaps didn’t buy into the midfielder’s remark.

Celtic had sold the 27-year-old midfielder to Southampton in the summer of 2018 when he had signed a four-year deal with the club and joined the club for a fee of £7million.

Last season, Armstrong had been a regular for the Saints in midfield. He had made 32 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring four times and racking up a couple of assists. In the Premier League, he made 29 appearances and got three goals.

This season, he has made 17 appearances in all competitions and is yet to score a single goal and is yet to assist even once.

During his time at Parkhead, Armstrong had made 144 appearances in all competitions. He had scored 28 goals and picked up 25 assists. He won a total of four Premiership titles and winning two Scottish Cup titles. He also won a couple of Scottish League Cup titles.

What do we think?

There is no space for Armstrong in the current Hoops midfield. The club already has Ryan Christie fit and firing, having made 33 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has already contributed to 30 goals too.

Scott Brown and Callum McGregor have been playing regularly in central midfield, meaning a player like Armstrong will have to settle for second-fiddle football. He won’t want a situation like that.
