Some Southampton fans are making it clear that they will be pleased to see midfield Oriol Romeu leave the club in the ongoing January transfer window.
The Saints midfielder Romeu has been linked with a move to La Liga side Celta Vigo in recent weeks, with AS claiming that he is set for a move to the club in the ongoing January transfer window. The report goes onto state that the clubs are now only pending a financial agreement and the move will go through soon.
Southampton fans: Should Romeu leave the club?
He can leave, not quick enough
He's a very good back-up!
A Saints-related page called Southampton Page relayed this news and some fans made it clear that they will be happy to see the player leave this month.
AS report that Oriol Romeu is close to signing for Celta Vigo in a deal estimated to be around €10m. ??
If this is to be believed, we could be heading into the second half of the season without a natural defensive midfielder… #SaintsFC pic.twitter.com/JzUrKoAxoh

Not mobile enough for Ralph’s system

He’s a bit player at best now. If we can get €10m for him then that’s great business.

€10m? Can’t turn that down for someone too slow for Ralph’s system. So ponderous on the ball, gets caught all the time on the ball and a walking yellow card. Good business.

Do we really play with a DM much? I know he has been coming on to sure up defence when protecting a lead (which perhaps we should of done yesterday). Maybe Ralph wants a DM who is younger & more mobile?

In all fairness he always suited a 3 man midfield. Don’t see him fitting in the current 4-4-2 system. Take the money and buy a good box to box midfielder

If he leaves bring back Harry Reed

Romeu a brilliant servant but he’ll probably want to be playing at this stage of his career. Romeu out in summer – Smallbone promoted to bench and Lemina back.

Southampton had signed Romeu from Premier League giants Chelsea in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £5million. For the Blues, the Spaniard had made 33 appearances in all competitions and got one goal.
For Southampton this season, Romeu has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Saints. 18 of them came in the Premier League, with one coming in the FA Cup. Last season, he had made 33 appearances in all competitions for the club and got one goal.
Since joining the club, Romeu has made 176 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has a tally of five goals and two assists.
What do we think?
Romeu last played a full 90 minutes of a game in early November against Everton. He did appear against Tottenham and Leicester but played just a single minute of both the games. It shows that Romeu might not be part of the club’s plans. If that is the case, he can leave.
