Some Southampton fans have made their opinions clear about Cedric Soares following his comments about his future at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
The 28-year-old Portuguese full-back was recently talking exclusively to the Daily Echo in a recent interview. When talking about his future, the former Sporting Lisbon man talked about how his contract is running out. He said that he is ‘focused’ on helping the team and that is ‘the most important thing’.
Southampton fans: Do you want Cedric to stay?
He's a good servant!
He can leave, he's useless
A Saints-related Twitter page called SaintsNews&Views relayed Cedric’s quotes and that sparked a reaction from many Southampton fans.
He was the one who said he was leaving at the end of his contact

Sounds like he’s getting edgy as he hasn’t managed to secure a move that he wanted.

At his best yes… at his worst no.
Do we have a better alternative lined up??
And dont say Valery— Tim Brown (@TimoftheBrown) January 15, 2020
Don’t think he wants one to be honest.

Happy to risk signing an upgrade…
Valery is PROBABLY good enough to cover for us is Ralph’s RB targets don’t cut it. So best of luck in the future Cedric.— Alex Stewart (@adstewart0606) January 15, 2020
Depends on whether he’s prepared to be paid the amount he’s now worth (probably far less than his last deal). If he wants a payrise I wouldn’t say he’s earned it. If he’s willing to stay as a senior player on a lower salary whilst a replacement gets brought through then sure.

Cedric joined Southampton from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2015 for £6.30m. Since then, he has become a regular option at the right-back position for the club.
This season, he has made 17 appearances in all competitions for the club. 13 of those appearances have come at right-back, with two coming from the left of the midfield and one coming from left-back.
Cedric spent a loan deal at Inter in the second half of the previous season. He made only nine appearances in all competitions for them, racking up two assists on the way. Cedric also made four appearances for them in the Europa League.
What do we think?
Cedric is 28 and is far from being too old. While the Saints have young Yan Valery slowly making an impact in the first-team, he would need an experienced player like Cedric to learn from and make the step above him. More so, Southampton can’t let Cedric leave the club on a free transfer. He has to stay till the time Valery becomes a regular.
