Some Southampton fans have been left delighted by club legend Francis Benali’s latest Twitter post after their win over Crystal Palace.

The Saints climbed up to as high as ninth in the Premier League table, thanks to the win over the Eagles. Goals from Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond sealed the deal for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, helping the club to get back to winning ways after a loss to Wolves at the weekend.

Southampton fans: Should Zaha have been sent off?

The game saw Wilfried Zaha escape a red card after trying to poke James Ward-Prowse in the eye. And Benali’s Twitter post took a dig at Zaha and it left many Saints fans in splits.

In his career so far in the Premier League, Zaha has made 13 appearances against the Saints. He has scored twice against them, also picking up one assist.

In the current Premier League season, the former Manchester United man has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles and has racked up a tally of three goals and just as many assists.

Last season was a better one of the Ivory Coast man, in terms of numbers. He made 36 appearances in all competitions for the club, scored ten goals and racked up just as many assists for the side.

What do we think?

Zaha did try to poke Ward-Prowse and the effort was clear. But the fact that it didn’t seem to hurt the midfielder too much was probably why the referee didn’t pay too much attention. If the attempt had hurt Ward-Prowse, Zaha would, perhaps, have been sent off.
