Liverpool are said to still be watching their former player Rafael Camacho, following some of the latest reports coming out of Portugal.

According to A Bola via Sport Witness, Liverpool continues to ‘attentively’ follow Camacho, who is also said to have a strong relationship with Jurgen Klopp, going as far to say that the pair have phone calls very regularly.

The Portuguese press has previously claimed the relationship between Klopp and Camacho would have no impact on any possible return to Anfield.

Who is Rafael Camacho?

Camacho started life out in Sporting Lisbon’s academy, before getting a move to Manchester City’s youth set up in July 2013, where he stayed until July 2016 when moving to Liverpool’s U18s.

Camacho eventually made it to the Reds U23s, however, the 19-year-old was later sold to Sporting for £4.50m in July 2019.

So far this season, the 19-year-old has played eight Liga Nos matches, scoring zero times but managing to get one assist for the senior side.

Featuring also in the UEFA Europa League at such a young age is very impressive, but once again contributions in front of goal are the only thing missing, failing to score or assist in any of his European outings.

Verdict

Major football clubs watch a lot of players, so this could simply just be Liverpool keeping tabs on a former player who happens to have a close relationship with Klopp. However, it would seem that if the German manager wanted to bring him back, it wouldn’t be too difficult to pull off.

It would be very interesting to see where Camacho would slot into Klopp’s plans, but we can’t see him playing much football at Liverpool.
