A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to an article about Sean Longstaff after a poor performance against Oxford United.
The central midfielder struggled throughout against the League One side, and this led to an article in the Daily Telegraph about his poor form.
Who is better?
Sean Longstaff
Matty Longstaff
The report suggests that in the last 12 months, Sean has regressed as a player and needs to rediscover his form, or he could lose his way.
This has led to many Toon fans thinking that Sean Longstaff was overrated when he first came onto the scene.
What has happened to Sean Longstaff? Newcastle star a shadow of the player he was tipped to be https://t.co/WXsE5n7p4D via @telefootball #nufc

Think we just got carried away. He might still turn out be a decent midfielder but he looks very limited

Quite simple, we all got excited after about 12 games. Unfortunate injury, then comesback and struggles to find form. It’s what happens with young players. We probably expect too much from lad finding his way. But club doesn’t invest & we hang our hats on local lad

has suffered without Rafa that’s for sure. Needed Rafa’s micro management through games, a calming presence.
Hasn’t been the same since Rafa left/Man U links/knee injury. Looks shot.
When he plays alongside Matty they look like two competition winners playing on adrenaline.

A few decent games and the fan base made him out to be amazing. Got carried away and now we are seeing his true level. His brother is the same

Needs time and a proper run of games had a very bad injury it will come you don’t just turn a bad player overnight

It sure is a mystery. He seemed to be developing really well under a top class manager. I wonder what changed?

What do we think?
This season has been a struggle for the 22-year-old, who is valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, he has provided one assist and averages a 6.31 rating from WhoScored.
His younger brother Matty has emerged and, has perhaps taken some of the spotlight away from Sean.
Matty Longstaff has scored three goals for the Toon this season, while Sean has not scored a single one and has been sent off.
Last season he was compared to Michael Carrick and linked with a move to Manchester United, and that all looks like it was a bit premature now.
However, he can still be a useful player for Newcastle. He just needs to knuckle down and work hard at his game.
