A lot of Newcastle United fans have reacted to Allan Saint-Maximin’s tweet after he admitted that his performance against Oxford United was his worst so far in a Newcastle shirt.
He then said he was going to work even harder to be more in shape.
Was this Saint-Maximin's worst game for Newcastle?
Yes, he was poor
No, he has played worse
The fact that the Frenchman admitted he played poorly has gone down brilliantly on Twitter with these Toon fans who love his honesty.
Not gonna lie, that's true it's my worst game so far, no excuses… Now im gonna work even harder to be more in shape! Thank you for the support #NextGame https://t.co/5ZIUIK3Tj6

All the years I’ve supported NUFC, never seen a player hold his hands up like that. Incredible! With your head down running at players, no1 should be catching you. You will be back stronger ????????

Life is full of lessons, you’re only human, we all make mistakes. It’s how you respond that makes the difference. We are all proud to have you as a player. My son and I got to see you play yesterday and were glad we did.

not everyone can play their best every game. So you had an off day, so what.
You’re still the best thing that has happened to Newcastle since David Ginola.— Swift Pint? (@AdamTripleC) January 26, 2020
We love you dude. Oxford played well. But we need to beat these teams. FA Cup is fun because of upsets like this. As long as you go out and enjoy yourself, work hard the fans will always respect you. Happy new year from China

Great man! Willing to accept the failure and look for improvement. Really appreciate that – we don’t expect the team to win all games but we expect a team which tried, put effort and be honest! Keep your head up mate, we are at your back!! ??

Don’t be so hard on yourself Allan. You still provided us with some great moments of excitement yesterday as you always do. You are still getting back to fitness but we love the hunger, honesty and commitment. We all love you fella and your fun Twitter post # KeepDancing&scoring

ASM you give 100% every game and have played through injuries this season to help Newcastle. The fans appreciate everything you and the team do for our club. Everyone has an off day. Don’t worry about it. Onto the next one. Loving your effort and honesty!

Ur a beast. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Youll be banging in screamers within the week.

What do we think?
It is very rare to see a player own up to their mistakes or admit that they played poorly, but Saint-Maximin proved that some players could do that.
The 22-year-old was still one of the Toon’s most creative players and had one effort saved by Simon Eastwood.
Steve Bruce rested Saint-Maximin against Everton and then decided to unleash him against the League One side, but he did not have the desired impact.
However, neither did many of his teammates and because of that, the Toon will now have to go to Oxford for a replay.
