Manchester City have entered the race to sign Dinamo Zagreb winger Dani Olmo. According to Spanish outlet AS (via Sport Witness), Barcelona have confirmed their interest in the 21-year-old but are said to be aware that Pep Guardiola’s side are monitoring the situation closely.

Olmo is said to be keen on a move away from the Croatian club but the report states the club’s chairman Mirko Barisic will demand at least €40m (£34m) for their star.

It’s understood that Barcelona would allow Olmo to stay with his current club for the remainder of the season with any agreed deal to be completed in the summer but its unclear as to whether City would be willing to do the same.

TIF Tactics – Who is Dani Olmo?

Dani Olmo Carvajal left Barcelona for Zagreb back in 2014 on a free transfer. He’s made nine appearances in the Croatian championship this season scoring three goals and providing three assists.

However, it’s his performances in the Champions League that have captured the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Olmo scored twice in the group stages, including an excellent goal versus Man City in December.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the player is valued at £31.5m and his current contract has until June 2021 to run, another reason why doing a deal sooner rather than later is in Dinamo Zagreb’s best interests.

It appears City and Barcelona will go head to head in the race to capture Olmo’s signature but it remains to be seen how far these clubs will go to fend off the interest from one another.
