Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers believes his team will have to “work the ball at speed and with quality” if they’re to overcome Newcastle United later on today. The Foxes travel to the North-East with Manchester City breathing down their necks and will be looking to extend their lead over Pep Guardiola’s side before they play later on.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rodgers said: “We obviously played very well against them earlier on in the season, but going to St. James’ Park is tough,” the Northern Irishman told the national media in attendance at the press conference.

Will LCFC take all three points from Newcastle on Wednesday?

“Their style and how the team plays is pretty much set. We’re going to have to be patient in the game, but play at speed, they’ll be in a deep block, not too far away from the box.

“We have to work the ball at speed and quality to work the opportunities. Again, there’s not an easy game in the Premier League.

“You have me at your maximum to get the results, but we go there with great confidence and hopefully we can get three points.”

TIF Tactics – A stern test

Many tipped the Magpies to struggle when Steve Bruce replaced Rafael Benitez but the club are comfortably sitting in mid-table. They have turned in some impressive performances so far this season and therefore Leicester are likely to have a difficult fixture ahead of them.

17 points separate the two sides and the game could see Ayoze Perez line up against his former club.  Brendan Rodgers has laid down a marker in terms of what he expects from his side – now it is over to the players to deliver as the King Power Stadium faithful will want to see their star men continue their good form of 2019 and carry it on into the new year.
