Supporters of Everton have reacted to Newcastle United’s reported interest in signing Mason Holgate from the Toffees.
According to the Mirror, as cited by Liverpool Echo (Live blog, 10:59, 16/01/2020), the Magpies ‘have an interest’ in bringing the Englishman to St. James’ Park, which Everton fans doubted.

Can’t see this happening, Holgate has been one of our best players this season.

No way can they have Mason. They can have Keane instead.

How much do you value Mason Holgate to be worth for Everton?£5m-£10m£11m-£17m£18m-£25m£26m+ |
So far this season, the 23-year-old has featured in 20 games for the Toffees in all competitions, in which he has bagged one goal and two assists (as per Transfermarkt).
With a respectable 6.7/10 average rating for the season so far (as per WhoScored), fans were keen for Everton to hang on to the defender even if a bid should arrive from the Toon.
I think we cannot afford to allow Holgate to move anywhere as he is now a very valuable part of Everton’s defence.

What do we think?
As many supporters have mentioned, Holgate has quickly become a key part of the Toffees’ backline this season and they should look to keep hold of him if possible.
It makes sense that Steve Bruce would be interested in acquiring the 23-year-old due to his age, home-grown player eligibility and respectable average rating, but, hopefully, Everton can keep a firm grip.
