Former Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye turned 34 today and the club have wished their former star a happy birthday via their official Twitter account.

The Frenchman arrived in South London after a spell with Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £12.5m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).

The ex-Newcastle United star played 109 times for the Eagles scoring ten goals and providing six assists. He added flair and creativity to an otherwise combative midfield and although he spent just three years at Selhurst Park, his time with the club is fondly remembered by the fans.

After the Crystal Palace Twitter account shared a post wishing Cabaye a happy birthday, many flocked to leave their own messages.

What do we think?

Cabaye, who is valued at £900k (Transfermarkt), now plays his football for French club Saint-Etienne, although he’s not a regular starter he will likely remain an important figure in Claude Puel’s dressing room. The veteran midfielder has made 8 appearances in Ligue 1 this season but has only started in 28% of their 20 league fixtures so far.

He’ll always be remembered by the Palace faithful for that sensational goal against Arsenal in front of the Holmsdale Road stand. He may not have been with the Eagle’s long enough to be classed as a Palace legend but he will no doubt be remembered as a cult-hero.
