Gregg Evans has provided a transfer update on Aston Villa and the future of Jonathan Kodjia.

The Athletic reporter claims that the future for Kodjia at Villa looks bleak.

The 30-year-old is not back in training, and a move to the Middle East seems the likely outcome for Kodjia.

Evans also believes that Villa are interested in Genk’s Mbwana Samatta and another striker that will probably be a loan deal.

Villa are desperately looking for a forward due to the season-ending injury suffered by Wesley, but it seems like Kodjia will not be given a chance to prove that he can play in the top-flight.

What will happen to Kodjia?

The 30-year-old forward joined Villa from Bristol City in 2017 and has made 106 appearances for the club and scored 31 goals.

However, since they were promoted to the Premier League, the Frenchman has only made six appearances and none of them have been starts.

Kodjia, who is valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, was a useful player for Villa in the Championship but has not proved his worth in the Premier League.

Villa transfer news

Samatta looks to be Villa’s top target to replace Wesley, and the club is thought to be close to sealing a deal that will be worth £8.5m for the 27-year-old who has scored ten goals this season with three of them coming in the Champions League.

The Villains spent over £100m in the summer, but injuries are going to force them into action this month, and getting Kodjia off the wage bill could help.
