Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland is reportedly set to keep his place in the team for Villa’s upcoming match against Manchester City.

According to Gregg Evans of The Athletic, the Norweigan will “continue in goal” for Villa’s weekend showdown with Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday after “impressing” in midweek.

Nyland has been filling in for first-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton after the Englishman suffered a serious knee injury in Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley earlier in the month.

With Heaton out until the end of the season, Nyland has been called into action for Dean Smith’s side. Their most recent match saw Nyland put in a stunning performance in Villa’s 1-1 draw against Leicester in the first-leg semi-final clash in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

In the midweek match, Nyland made five saves to deny Leicester throughout the game, earning him a match rating of 7.6, according to WhoScored.

This heroic performance has therefore reportedly given Smith the confidence and belief in Nyland to play him in Villa’s mouth-watering clash with Premier League champions Manchester City.

The 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £1.35 million according to TransferMarkt, will be over the moon with his performance against Leicester. Despite not managing to keep a clean sheet in the match, Nyland’s saves were a huge reason why Villa left the King Power Stadium with a draw and not a defeat.

Everyone at Villa will now be hoping the shot-stopper can pull off a similar performance in their weekend match against Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing City side.
