Aston Villa fans have been pleading on Twitter for the club not to sign Jay Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

This comes after Villa journalist Gregg Evans shared a post on his official page claiming the club are “considering a bid” for the Burnley centre-forward.

Would you like to see Jay Rodriguez sign for Villa this month?

This post also contained an article from The Athletic on this latest piece of transfer news.

The post then led to a large number of Villa fans tweeting their desires for Rodriguez not to make the move to Villa Park this month.

Here’s a sample of Villa fans calling for the club not to sign Rodriguez:

The former West Brom man is currently playing for fellow Premier League side Burnley. Rodriguez, who is currently valued at £5.4 million according to TransferMarkt, has made 23 appearances for Sean Dyche’s side so far this season. In those appearances, he has scored six goals but only completed a full 90 minutes in the Premier League three times (per TransferMarkt). Now that news has emerged that Villa are interested in bringing Rodriguez to the club, it’s got a lot of fans talking on Twitter, mostly being negative on the potential move.

What do we think?

With first-choice striker Wesley out injured for the rest of the season, it’s understandable why Villa are interested in bringing a new centre-forward to Villa Park this month. But for whatever reason, it seems as though the idea of Rodriguez being the man to come in for Wesley is not very popular with the Villa fans.
