Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Douglas Luiz after his mistake in their midweek draw against Leicester City.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @AVFCchats shared a post on their page defending the midfielder after his mistake led to Leicester’s equalising goal in the 1-1 draw in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, with the Birmingham Mail gifting him a rating of 6.5/10 for his performance.
Has Douglas Luiz been a success at Villa this year?
Yes
No
This post then gathered lots of replies from Villa fans who were keen to share their own thoughts on Luiz.
Here is a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
He’s constantly mentally off the pace. Positioning, awareness and general ‘being on the ball’. There are some positives but seemingly he’s another footballer who puts as much as a shift into social media than he does on the pitch

I don’t want him gone but it isn’t one mistake.
3 or 4 times that exact kind of lapse in concentration from him has cost us a goal.— TheCentralScrutinizer (@TheCentralScru9) January 9, 2020
He’s constantly caught napping on the ball, hasn’t offered much this season bar the two wonder goals

The Brazilian was caught on the ball getting dispossessed by Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury which then led to Kelechi Iheanacho firing past Orjan Nyland to equalise the scoreline. This lapse of concentration from Luiz led to a large debate on Twitter from many Villa fans who were eager to share their thoughts on his season so far.
So fickle. He was poor tonight, and has been poor a lot this season. I don’t want him gone, just want him to get better

Shocking on the ball tonight but hopefully he will learn from it, can’t fault effort commitment or defensive organisation #avfc

He gave ball away loads. He does that every game. He has done what he did tonight at least 3 times this season & they have cost us goals.Criticism and opinions are justified. He doesn’t yet suit prem football too slow in his head. Awareness is awful.I’m not too sure what he offers?

What do we think?
If Luiz didn’t get caught on the ball, Villa could have left the King Power with a win instead of a draw. The hope now is that Luiz will learn for his mistake and become more aware of his surroundings on the ball.
