Aston Villa fans have been discussing on Twitter the recent absence of Bjorn Engels from the recent Villa squad.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @villareport relayed quotes made by club manager Dean Smith via Birmingham Live that Engels is “fine” and that he had been doing some “extra training” at their Bodymoor training facility.
Should Bjorn Engels be in the Villa squad?
Yes
No
This stems from Engels’ omission from the Villa squad that beat Watford 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
The post on Smith’s comments then led to a number of Villa fans replying with their thoughts on the situation.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans questioning Smith’s comments on Engels:
Lying according to Engles Instagram. Or he’s on holiday with Jota

Something doesn’t add up. Him and Mings were like a wall at the start of the season.

The Belgian defender has not made an appearance for Villa since their 3-1 defeat to Southampton back in December (per Transfermarkt). When asked about Engel’s continued absence in the squad, Smith’s answer raised a few eyebrows for some Villa fans.
Is Bodymoor Heath in France now then

Heard he had a bust up with Smith over formations, not sure if there’s any truth in it but we will never know

What do we think?
It seems as though Smith’s attempt at playing down the reason why Engels is not in the current squad hasn’t fooled these Villa fans. As of right now, Engel’s absence and the possibility of his return is a mystery.
