When Noel Whelan spoke exclusively to Football Insider, he stated that Leeds United desperately need a striker.

When speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has insisted that Che Adams is the striker that Leeds United need to sign. Whelan stated that Marcelo Bielsa’s side desperately needs to sign a striker and the Peacocks have shown on several occasions that they need better strength in depth.

A proven striker is what Leeds needs according to Whelan. So far this season Adams is yet to score in 16 Premier League matches, however, the former Leeds man has stated that he’s the one the Peacocks should want to sign.

Is Che Adams all hype or the key to Leeds United’s success?

When Che Adams was playing in the Championship for Birmingham City, he made a total of 116 appearances and scored 34 goals.

Sounds impressive? Not at all, this is probably one of the most hyped-up strikers right now, as when you actually look into his Championship stats, the 23-year-old is miles away from being proven, in fact he is more poor than proven.

During the 2016/17 Championship campaign, Adams played 40 matches for Birmingham, however, the now 23-year-old could only manage to score seven times. The story is the same when you look at the 2017/18 Championship season, with Adams playing 10 fewer games and scoring just five goals.

So at this moment in time, Adams has scored 12 Championship goals in two seasons for Birmingham,

However, we have to give the 23-year-old credit for his efforts in the 2018/19 season, with Adams playing 46 Championship matches and scored a whopping 22 goals.

But does one good season in the Championship make you a proven goalscorer?

Verdict

We would be very careful when signing Che Adams as if you get the 2016 version, any fee would be a complete waste of money. Perhaps a loan deal would be the safest option, as that way if he turns out to be rubbish, the Peacocks won’t be stuck with Adams.
