A tweet from Phil Hay might upset many Leeds United fans, as they should get ready for a lack of midfielder signings this January.

Phil Hay was asked by a fan if there is anybody other than Ian Poveda and a striker coming in, with the Peacocks supporter mentioning the defensive midfield areas. Hay stated that he doesn’t see a central-midfielder joining Leeds United.

Leeds has some very talented midfielders already at the club, with the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich already in Marcelo Bielsa’s side, but you could argue that reinforcements are required in that particular position, with Adam Forshaw currently out injured and another injury to either Phillips or Klich possibly adding unwanted pressure.

Does Leeds United have a midfield crisis?

When you look at the average ratings from Whoscored, Kalvin Phillips is currently Leeds United’s top-performing player with a rating of 7.20/10. This could indicate why Phil Hay feels it’s unlikely to see a midfielder join the Peacocks this January.

Mateusz Klich has also been putting in a shift for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the Polish midfielder scoring three goals and one assist. Again, these are impressive stats which don’t indicate there are major issues with the current crop of central players at Elland Road.

Verdict

From looking at two of Leeds United more prolific midfielders, you can see that Marcelo Bielsa does have some talent options in that area. Supporters are always going to want their club to be spending lots of money, so perhaps this is just a little bit of that.
