Alex Crook, who is from Talksport and is a national newspaper journalist, has claimed that Southampton are not interested in giving the Whites Che Adams, and he also claims that he has been reliably informed that the 23-year-old is happy at the Saints.

If true, this could be a big blow for Leeds, who had made Adams their top target for January, and they believed that the Saints board were willing to let the former Birmingham City man move to Elland Road and crucially, Adams was thought to want the move.

Indeed, Phil Hay has even stated that the Whites are waiting for an answer from Southampton.

Is this a major blow for Leeds?

However, this latest update suggests that both the board and the player are now not interested in Leeds.

The positive for Leeds is that this has happened early enough in the window that they can move onto other targets, but it is a hammer blow for the Whites.

Adams scored 22 goals for Birmingham last season and could have fitted in perfectly to Marcelo Bielsa’s team with his physicality and eye for goal.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has started to play Adams in more games recently, and on Saturday, he provided an assist for Danny Ings (1:55) – so maybe that is why he now wants to stay at St Mary’s?

Of course, with Eddie Nketiah now back at Arsenal and Patrick Bamford as the club’s only natural striker, unless you count Tyler Roberts, it’s obvious that an attacker needs to be drafted in at some point this month, with promotion possibly at stake.

Either way, it looks like Leeds will not be signing Adams in this window.
