Phil Hay has provided an update on Che Adams’s situation at Southampton, which suggests that the 23-year-old wants to move to Elland Road, and he is just waiting for Ralph Hasenhuttl to let him go.

This is the clearest sign yet that Adams wants to work under Marcelo Bielsa, and this is a positive step forward in the Whites’ pursuit of the former Birmingham City striker.

Why do Leeds want Adams?

Bielsa said that he wants to replace Eddie Nketiah and that he would like a striker with similar qualities to Patrick Bamford, and Adams certainly fits that mould.

The 23-year-old, who is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, is big strong and stocky and has a keen eye for goal.

Last season he scored 22 Championship goals for Birmingham, and he could be a great addition for Leeds.

Nketiah scored some important goals but proved himself unable to fit into Bielsa’s system, and Adams could be a better option.

The fact that he wants the move to Elland Road is a big factor, and it seems that the final decision will be left to Hasenhuttl – who has repeatedly insisted that Adams is going nowhere.

If Leeds could convince the Saints boss to let go of Adams, then it would be a brilliant piece of business.
