Some West Bromwich Albion fans are delighted with their new star Matheus Pereira and wish to see the playmaker sign for the Hawthorns-based side on a permanent basis in January.

The Brazilian has been an influential figure for the club since joining from Sporting Lisbon this past summer. He has been involved in a total of 15 goals in the Championship this season under Slaven Bilic.

After West Brom’s important 1-0 win over Preston, Pereira posted a message on Twitter about how the side fights till the end. Some Baggies fans are now begging the Sporting loanee to join the club on a permanent basis in January.

West Brom fans: Should Pereira be signed in January?

For sure!

For sure!

While the Baggies signed the Brazilian on a temporary deal, they do have the option to sign Pereira on a permanent basis. The deal can be activated in the summer transfer window and it will depend on the number of appearances he makes.

This season, Pereira has been key to helping West Brom stay at the top of the Championship so far. They are two points ahead of second-placed Leeds United, who did manage to beat them early on in the season.

Pereira has played 18 times in the league, scoring four times and racking up 11 assists. He was recently key in helping the Baggies to a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday when he grabbed both the assists.

Before coming to the Midlands club this season, Pereira was on loan at Bundesliga side Nurnberg last season, where he played 21 times in all competitions and had three contributions to his name.

What do we think?

Pereira, who is valued at £6.3 million (as per Transfermarkt), has shown that despite not having things work out for him in Germany and Portugal, he is thriving in England. And that is key for West Brom. His productivity on the ball has shown a lot of promise and he will be very important in the club’s hunt for promotion.

Having said that, the statement from the club says that West Brom’s option to sign the player permanently can only be activated in the summer. There seems that he will play enough for that deal to be activated.
