There are quite a few players at Rangers Football Club whose contracts end at the end of the season. Rangers fan account, Rangers Culture, tweeted out a list of those leaving Ibrox. Andy King, Sheyi Ojo, Jermain Defoe, Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham, Jack Alnwick, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter, Andy Firth and Zak Rudden are all set to leave when the season ends.
For the most part, fans were unfazed by the news that these players were leaving. With many of them making a minimal impact on the first team results, fans responded to the tweet encouraging the club to move the players on. There was, however, one player who the fans wanted to see stay.
Despite being 37 years of age, Defoe is still chipping in with goals on a semi-regular basis for Rangers. He has been able to contribute to the team when first-choice Alfredo Morelos needs a break and is an experienced presence in Steven Gerrard’s dressing room. These fans want to see Defoe resigned, despite only being at the club on a loan deal.
We better be offering Defoe a new deal.

Defoe new deal.

I’d offer Defoe a contract but that’s it. Time to start giving our academy players chances, ie Robby McCrorie 2nd choice keeper and young Houston cover for Tav etc

Gerrard and Defoe will surely be in conversations to extend his stay into a permanent basis

Would you give Jermain Defoe a new contract at Rangers?
Yes
No
One fan even thinks Defoe could continue to make an impact on Gerrard’s side in a decade, considering how spritely he looks at an age so close to retirement. Another sees the English striker taking up the mantle of player-coach.
Wee Defoe Looks After Himself He could still be there to see Stevie G guide Rangers to 10 in a row

Defoe will be player coach next year

What do we think?
Jermain Defoe has certainly been an important cog in Gerrard’s machine, having produced 13 goals in all competitions so far this season. He is vital if the team want to continue winning so frequently. If he does stay, he will certainly be a boost going into the next season.
