Rangers victory over their rivals this weekend was a massive step for them in the league. The win helped them put their fate back into their own hands, now being two points off the top of the league with a game in hand. Should they win that game in hand, they will become the undisputed first-place team.
But the game could have gone in a much different direction if not for Allan McGregor. The Scottish shot-stopper denied Ryan Christie’s penalty in the 33rd minute before Rangers went up the other end to score the game’s opening goal in the 36th. After the match Rangers tweeted out a gif of the stop. Fans sent their praises to McGregor, with one fan suggesting he deserves a knighthood.
Stand up and be counted Allan McGregor

OMG What an end to the year!!! @therealgreegsy1 you’re a legend. Knighthood for Alan McGregor. Tommy Burns once said on his headstone it would read ‘Goram broke his heart’ I believe Neil Lennon will have similar with McGregor broke his heart, his soul & his very being.

Would Rangers have won the Old Firm if McGregor didn't save the penalty?
No
Yes
Others called McGregor, who is valued at £675k (Transfermarkt) a capeless hero. He saved them on the night.
Super heroes don’t wear capes! Take a bow Alan McGregor!

What do we think?
McGregor’s contribution to his game can’t be overstated. His contributions to the season as a whole have been large as well. The goalkeeper has played a massive role in Gerrard’s success so far this season and must continue to perform if his team hopes to lift its 55th league title.
