Many of Rangers’ regular starters played poorly during the club’s midweek match against Aberdeen. The game resulted in a disappointing 2-2 draw, dropping Steven Gerrard’s side to an undisputed second place in the league. With a tricky cup final in coming up on the weekend, fans will be worried about the team’s untimely dip in form.
But it wasn’t just regular starters who disappointed the Rangers faithful. Jon Flanagan was given the nod at right-back in wake of a missing Borna Barisic. The Croatian’s absence was sorely missed by these fans. Other fans begged Gerrard to leave Flanagan out for the cup final. They don’t want to see him play at all.
Was a huge miss for us tonight, Flanagan is a huge downgrade

Barisic has to be fit for Sunday. If not, I can’t see Rangers winning. Makes such a difference to this side. Creates so many chances and has arguably been Rangers best player this season (behind Alfredo) Flanagan is nowhere near good enough.

Gonna miss Barisic on Sunday as well. Absolute fear if Flanagan plays

Do Rangers have a chance of winning the Scottish League Cup Final without Borna Barisic?
Yes
No
Another supporter blames the choice to play both Flanagan and Filip Helander. They think the full-back’s presence contributed to the Swede’s poor game.
helander and flanagan should never be on the pitch together ever again

I like Flanagan, but he was a big part of the problem on the night.
Helander was constantly left trying to cover his own position and cover for Flanagan

Helander and Borna both left sided players and compliment each other’s game, throw in a Right sided player in Flano and this does not help our defence!! Time to step up The Glasgow Rangers, No Surrender

What do we think?
The 26-year-old, who is valued at £1.35 million (as per Transfermarkt), is clearly not in the Rangers fans’ good books right now. If he does play in the cup final, however, he will have a chance to win their trust back. But a massive performance will be needed to make up for his showing on Wednesday night.
