Some Celtic fans are seething in rage about the performance of midfielder James Forrest in the club’s recent 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

The Hoops suffered a huge blow to their title hopes and now find themselves only two points clear, having played a game more. A Ryan Christie missed penalty was followed up by a Ryan Kent goal. Odsonne Edouard did equalise in controversial fashion, but Nikola Katic’s second-half goal saw Rangers win the game.

Celtic fans: Should Forrest play regularly now?

Never, he deserves a punishment

He should play!

He should play!

The defeat has left many Celtic fans livid. And the player they’re most angry about is James Forrest.

The Hoops started with a 4-2-3-1 shape on Sunday, with Edouard upfront. Mikey Johnston started on the left, with Christie starting as the attacking midfielder. Forrest, though, started as the right-winger. Callum McGregor and Scott Brown started in the double pivot.

So far this season, Forrest has played 35 games in all competitions so far. He has played 20 games in the Premiership this season, having started every single game of the league campaign so far. In all competitions though, Forrest has found the back of the net 14 times and also has a tally of 16 assists.

In the Premiership, the Hoops youth product has scored eight times and also has a tally of 11 assists.

Last season, the Scotland international had done well for the club. He played as many as 58 games in all competitions. He racked up 18 goals and as many as 20 assists.

What do we think?

While Forrest, who is valued at £4.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), hasn’t been at his best in recent games, it is harsh to say that he doesn’t deserve to wear the Celtic jersey. His numbers have been very impressive over the last few seasons have been impressive. Some bad games shouldn’t make him a bad player. He needs a spell out of the team before coming back.
