Some Celtic are very unhappy with the performance of young winger Mikey Johnston in their recent loss in the Premiership on Sunday.

The Hoops now have only a two-point lead at the top of the Premiership and their lead was cut short by the loss to the Gers. And Steven Gerrard’s men have a game in hand over the Hoops and if they win the game, they could go at the top of the league.

The game saw Johnston start on the left-wing, with Ryan Christie start in attacking midfield. James Forrest started on the right-wing.

Celtic fans: Is Johnston good enough?

Nope, not good enough!

Nope, not good enough!

He needs time

But some Hoops fans aren’t happy with the performance of Johnston and feel that he needs time.

The 20-year-old Johnston is a product of the Celtic youth academy. So far this season, the youngster has played 18 games in all competitions. He has racked up a tally of six goals and also has five assists to his name.

The winger broke into the club’s first-team back in the 2016-17 campaign when he was only 17-years-old. Since then, he has grown up the pecking order. In the 2017-18 campaign, he had played three times in all competitions.

Last season, he played 21 times in all competitions for the club. He racked up a tally of five goals and one assist. This season has been his most productive campaign, in terms of goalscoring and assist. It is the most he has ever played in a single season too.

What do we think?

Johnston is still young. This is his first full season at the club and it is unfair to blame him for the loss. He is still slowly growing in stature and there is no doubt that he will come good soon. He’s already proving that he is Celtic quality and he just needs time.
