Some Celtic fans are fuming at the performance of versatile player Jonny Hayes in the club’s recent 2-0 win over Hearts away from home in the Scottish Premiership (BBC).

The Hoops picked up what was a compact 2-0 win over the Tynecastle club Hearts, thanks to a goal each from Olivier Ntcham and fellow midfielder Ryan Christie. The win saw the Hoops increase their lead at the top of the Premiership to as many as five points, with Rangers yet to play their game against Hibernian until Friday evening.

Celtic fans: Should the club let Hayes go?

Absolutely, he's terrible

The game saw Jonny Hayes start once again, as he played at left-back ahead of Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor. Some Celtic fans aren’t happy about it and are fuming at his performances.

Hayes is currently 32 and has been at the club for some months more than two years now. He had joined the club from Aberdeen in the summer of 2017 for an undisclosed fee. He was 29 back then.

This season, the Republic of Ireland man has been used quite often by Neil Lennon. He has played 19 times in all competitions by Lennon and has also been used in the left-back position so far. He has played ten times in the Premiership, scoring once as well.

This could already turn out to be more than how much he played last season when he featured a total of 22 times in all competitions. He only had three assists to his name for the Hoops.

What do we think?

Hayes has the experience and has the maturity to play in multiple positions across the pitch and that makes him an important utility player. He has that workrate that Lennon likes, even though he isn’t as natural a full-back as Bolingoli or Taylor. He can do a very determined job.
