Some Celtic fans are loving John Hartson’s latest tweet about the refereeing decision that turned out to be controversial in their League Cup final on Sunday.
The Hoops won their 19th League Cup title in history and it was Neil Lennon’s first in his career. It was one such silverware that had evaded Lennon in his career, be it at Parkhead or at Hibernian.
Christopher Jullien did score on Sunday, but his goal was seen as a controversial one. Many thought the Frenchman was offside, but the referee gave the goal (BBC).
John Hartson’s latest tweet concerns how Rangers had a similar situation some years ago. And some Celtic fans are absolutely loving it.

There have been so many over the years but we were just told it was just honest mistakes and paranoia. Funny how things change when it affects the other half of the city.

Point well made big man. Some amount of whinging from them. I am not really keen on Var but if it comes in here, and it’s used properly, we will benefit from it more than them.

Hartson was at the club from 2001 and left the club in 2006 to join West Brom in the Championship. During this time at Parkhead, the Welshman won three Premiership titles for the Hoops, winning the League Cup once and winning the Scottish Cup twice as well. Not just that, Hartson was the club’s highest goalscorer in the 2004-05 campaign too.
So far this season, the Hoops are at the top of the Premiership table. Up until last Wednesday, they were ahead only on goal difference, but Rangers’ 2-2 draw against Aberdeen saw Celtic increase their lead to two points at the top. But the Bhoys managed to beat Hamilton 2-1, thanks to a last-ditch Scott Brown winner.
Lennon’s men have scored one more goal this season than the Gers, conceding one goal less than them.
What do we think?
Photos do show that Jullien was not offside against Rangers. Even if he was, Rangers have themselves to blame for the loss. Morelos missed the penalty and they had more shots on target per game than the Hoops. They failed to take advantage of that.
