Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to plead with Dean Smith to drop John McGinn from the team for their next game.
This comes after Villa news Twitter page @AVFC_News shared a post on their official page asking their followers if now is the right time to take McGinn out of the team.
The post also contained an article from the Birmingham Mail on Villa’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester at the weekend.
This post then gathered many replies from Villa fans who think McGinn should take some time out of the team.
Does John McGinn need to be rested?
Yes
No
Here’s a sample of Villa fans wanting McGinn to be dropped from Dean Smith’s side:
Yup, been chasing shadows for a long time now because he’s exhausted! Freshen it up a little maybe Lansbury grealish in the middle with trez and el ghazi wide! Where’s Davis?

Yesterday was the perfect chance to rest him so he’s ready for our Christmas run in, now we will be resting him against teams we need to beat

Yes he needs a rest, that’s why they have a squad of players!!!!

The Scottish midfielder has played 90 minutes in every Premier League game for Villa so far this season (per Transfermarkt). Now that some Villa fans have been noticing a drop in quality from McGinn compared to his strong start to the season, they have recently been calling for McGinn to have a break out of the team.
Hasn’t played a decent game since since Grealish moved out wide and he signed that 5 year contract

Yes that’s why we have a squad, time for Lansbury, he looks burnt out

Yes and when back playing in the position he does best. Better right in the heart of the midfield.

What do we think?
As the hectic run of festive fixtures approaches, maybe giving McGinn a break out of the team would benefit him, and the team, in the long run. Smith should take the fans’ opinions into consideration when deciding on whether or not to give McGinn a rest, as the likes of Conor Hourihane and Henri Lansbury could step in.
