Wolverhampton Wanderers have launched a bid for LOSC Lille’s Boubakary Soumare on a permanent deal, according to Foot Mercato.

Reportedly, the Old Gold have bid ‘over €50m’ (£42.6m) for the 20-year-old Frenchman, also being open to loaning him back to his current French club for the remainder of the season (as per Sport Witness).

Competition for the signature

According to the report, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could be set to face some steely competition from other sides across Europe as well as the Premier League for his signature.

Recently, sides like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have both been linked with the Frenchman (per Sports Witness), as well as Napoli also being rumoured to have matched Wolves’ bid for the youngster by Foot Mercato.

Should the Old Gold be able to tempt the 20-year-old to Molineux, although they would have to lodge a bid which Lille was happy to accept first, it could be a smart move from the midlands club.

At 20, the highly-rated defensive-minded middleman already has an impressive 48 Ligue 1 matches under his belt and a single goal to his name in the competition (as per Transfermarkt).

Furthermore, the Frenchman has taken his total number of outings with Lille to 61 including cup outings, providing the youngster with a good level of first-team experience (per Transfermarkt).

If there is one thing that Wolves’ continued involvement in the Europa League has proven, it is that the club is in need of reinforcements right the way across the pitch (per The Guardian).

Despite appearing to have seven central midfielders to the club’s name, Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss have been filling in a centre-back, while Morgan Gibbs-White, Ming Yang-Yang and Bruno Jordao are not up to standard yet.

This leaves Nuno with just Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho to choose from in the middle of the park, who Soumare could prove to be a fantastic understudy to.
