Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing Lille striker Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window, as he looks to bring in back-up to Harry Kane.

According to French news outlet Jeunes Footeux (via Team Talk), Mourinho is considering approaching the Nigerian striker to help keep Harry Kane fresh and Osimhen could be the ideal man. The Lille striker has hit 11 goals in 22 appearances so far this season and with the French side already out of the Champions League, he may well favour a move to North London.

The Nigerian international spent last year on loan at Belgian side SP Charleroi; with whom he hit 20 goals in 36 games and the young striker has continued his goalscoring exploits with his parent club so far this season. The 20-year-old is currently valued at £11.7 million so could be a relatively cheap option for Mourinho in the upcoming window, should he opt to try and negotiate a deal with Lille.

TIF Tactics:

At just 20-years-old, Osihmen could not just be a back-up to Harry Kane, but perhaps his eventual successor, if the England captain does opt to leave Spurs in the next couple of years. The Nigerian striker has clear goal-scoring ability and offers some of the pace which Kane perhaps lacks up front, so could be an alternative option for Mourinho.

We saw in the game against Bayern Munich earlier this month that Mourinho opted to play Lucas Moura as a make-shift striker in the absence of Kane, which demonstrates a lack of squad depth in that position. It would be a surprise if the Portuguese manager didn’t look to bring in reinforcements up front for his new club in January and Osimhen could be the perfect option.
