Spurs fans have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Lyon forward Memphis Depay after the Dutchman revealed a conversation he and Mourinho had during their time together at Manchester United.
Spurs have been linked with signing the 25-year-old and looked to have been given a significant boost after Depay’s recent comments on the new Spurs boss. In an interview with the Sunday Times (via TranSPURS), the Dutch international discussed his time working under Mourinho, saying: “I said to Mourinho ‘you will see me at the top.’ He said, ‘OK, I hope that and I hope we will buy you back one day.’ I never had a bad relationship with him.”
Depay was sold to Lyon by Mourinho in 2017 and he has gone on to really establish himself with the French side; with 50 goals and 42 assists in 131 games in nearly three years with the club. There were a lot of high hopes for Depay when he first signed for United from PSV Eindhoven, but a disappointing spell meant he was moved on just two years later.
Would Depay be a good signing for Spurs?

Absolutely love this, he’s genuinely a special player. Would add so much to that front 3.

He’s been phenomenal with Netherlands. He’s also comparable with Di Maria and Mbappe in the league.

These Spurs fans are clearly very keen on signing Depay and would love to see the 25-year-old return to the Premier League in January.
What do we think?
Depay has been in superb form Lyon so far this season and looks a far better player than the one we saw at Manchester United a few years ago.
The Dutchman is currently valued at £40.5 million (Transfermarkt), so it could be an expensive transfer for the club should Mourinho try and bring him in, but he would certainly be an exciting addition to the Spurs squad.
