Spurs fans were less than impressed to hear that centre-back Juan Foyth wants to leave the club in January should his playing time not increase under Jose Mourinho.
According to the Athletic, the young defender feels ready for a move away from North London, although Mourinho was impressed with the Argentinian’s performance against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. The 21-year-old, who was signed by Spurs in 2017, has found game time hard to come by in his two years at the club but was one of the standout performers for Mourinho’s side in the Champions League defeat.
Since joining, Foyth has made just 30 appearances for Spurs and spoke about his preference to leave the club should his game time not improve. With the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld having not yet committed their future to the club, the 21-year-old may yet become an important part of Mourinho’s defence in time to come but it seems as if he will have to wait a while longer for regular first-team football.
Does Foyth deserve regular game time?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Foyth’s admission can be seen in the tweets below.
He’s not good enough to be a first choice defender, always makes mistakes so wouldn’t be concerned if we moved him on and replaced him with a decent CB that can defend, I don’t get this myth that he’s a good player, he’s never shown it in a spurs shirt

This is what I was worried about with Jose using 13,14 players and the others rarely used promising players Lo Celso Foyth wanting out.. Foyth needs a chance at DM

Foyth needs to replace Dier as our versatile player. Dier is finished and Foyth has big talent in CB RB and CDM positions, those of which Eric Dier usually covers

Don’t blame him. Jose needs to use these youngsters or they’ll all leave. Simple.

Stick him in as CDM, like foyth a lot but can sometimes over play it so by playing him cdm he will have the cover of the back 4 and keeper behind him, and we’ll have someone that can just sit back and let the attacking players attack, good on the ball and can play out as well

Need to try him in the holding role, really think he is ready made for it

He should be playing where Dier is holding midfield. He’s a good defender and good on the ball and waaaaay better than Dier. I can’t believe Poch nor Mourinho can see that

These Spurs fans are clearly split between thinking that Foyth isn’t good enough and wanting Mourinho to test him out in a new defensive midfield position.
What do we think?
Foyth is a regular at right-back for Argentina but has barely featured for Spurs in his two years at the club, so it is understandable that he wants to leave the club should his first-team opportunities not increase. He doesn’t look to have enough physicality to nail down a place at centre-back in Mourinho’s side, but the £13.5 million rated man could well be deployed in a more advanced position in the future.
