Despite them losing 3-1 at Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening, a lot of Spurs fans were full of praise for Philippe Coutinho after his excellent performance.
Coutinho is currently on loan at the Bundesliga side from Barcelona and seemed to run rings around the Spurs midfield for the majority of their Champions League clash. The Brazilian is well known for his shooting prowess and was allowed several shots at the Spurs goal before one of his curling efforts finally beat keeper Paulo Gazzaniga in the 64th minute to seal the win for the home side.
Jose Mourinho rested a lot of key players for the game at the Allianz Arena and his side were taught a lesson at times by Coutinho, with the 27-year-old earning an 8.9 rating for his significant efforts. The creative midfielder has impressed since joining the German side on loan; with four goals and five assists in his opening 19 games for Bayern, who may well opt to make his move a permanent one.
Was Coutinho the best player on the pitch against Spurs?

Reaction from Spurs fans to Coutinho’s dominant display can be seen in the tweets below.
Coutinho only given us the 3 warnings tonight from long range, yet we still give him 5 yards of space to shoot around our own box. Question several of our player’s football brains sometimes. #THFC

To think that Coutinho was bombed out by Barca and Eriksen believes the elite clubs like Barca want to sign him.

I think he’s technically really good but too slow to execute anything quickly enough for Prem league.. Just look at how fast Coutinho moved and provided outlets for himself and the other player’s with and without the ball…

These Spurs fans were clearly impressed with Coutinho’s performance against Mourinho’s side and will perhaps be glad they won’t be facing him again until at least the quarter-final.
What do we think?
Coutinho’s performance was a joy to watch at times and he showed himself to be a class above a lot of the players in Spurs’ squad. Valued at £90 million, it would be a surprise if Bayern didn’t opt to sign him on a permanent deal if he continues to produce displays such as the one against Jose Mourinho’s side.
