Recent reports suggest that one of Spurs’ most highly-rated prospects Oliver Skipp could be set to leave the club on loan in January, either to a Premier League or Championship club.

According to the Evening Standard, Jose Mourinho is keen to send the England Under-21 international out on loan in order to aid his development. This represents a stark contrast to previous manager Mauricio Pochettino’s policy on young players, with the Argentinian often rejecting loan bids in order to keep youngsters training with the club and development squads.

Skipp has made 17 appearances for the Spurs’ senior squad in his career, having come through the youth academy at the North London club, but could be set to experience first-team football elsewhere should he leave in the upcoming transfer window. The 19-year-old played his first minutes under Mourinho when coming off the bench in Spurs’ 5-0 win over Burnley at the weekend but it seems as if the Portuguese manager feels he is not yet ready for regular first-team football.

TIF Tactics:

Skipp has impressed at times for Spurs but looks surplus to requirements at this moment in time and does perhaps need a strong loan spell to show Mourinho and his coaching staff that he is good enough to play in the Premier League. The youngster’s only start this season came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester and the 19-year-old should really be hoping to see more senior game-time elsewhere to best aid his development.

It will be interesting to see if there is any interest in the £7.2 million rated (Transfermarkt) man from Premier League or Championship clubs in January, with Mourinho apparently looking to move him on. Either way, Skipp clearly has to do more to impress his new boss if he wants to truly establish himself as a senior squad player.
