Spurs striker Kazaiah Sterling is set to be recalled from his loan at Doncaster Rovers in January, having made just four appearances for the League One side.

According to Football Insider, the North London club will recall Sterling from Darren Moore’s side in the upcoming transfer window with the 21-year-old having failed to nail down a starting spot in the third division. There were high hopes that the youngster would get regular game-time in League One when he joined on a season-long loan but that has clearly failed to materialise and Sterling is expected to be back with the Spurs development squad in January.

Sterling had spent last season on loan at Sunderland; with whom he made eight appearances, scoring just once. The England youth international had made a promising start with Doncaster, scoring off the bench in a win over Lincoln City but injury has meant he hasn’t featured since September.

TIF Tactics:

Although he has been injured Spurs are clearly not impressed with Sterling’s lack of appearances in League One, so it is no surprise to see the talented youngster expected to return in January. Mourinho may want to take a closer look at the 21-year-old, who was, of course, sent out on loan by former manager Mauricio Pochettino and it will be interesting to see if he heads out to a new club on loan in January.

It would be a shock to see Sterling feature for Mourinho’s first-team anytime soon, although he has featured twice for the Spurs senior side in his career. If he can impress Mourinho by performing at a new club or in the Spurs youth teams after he is recalled from January, then perhaps Spurs fans will begin to hear more about the highly-rated youngster in the near future.
