Spurs fans were delighted to hear this week that the club are reportedly lining up a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano in January.

According to French news outlet Le Parisien (via Ricky Sacks), the North London club are ready to launch an offer for the defender, with Jose Mourinho seemingly a big fan of the Frenchman. Upamecano will reportedly be allowed to leave the Bundesliga side, although it will depend on whether they can secure the services of Tanguy Kouassi from PSG as his replacement.

The 21-year-old defender has been in excellent form for Leipzig so far this season; averaging an impressive 7.16 rating in all competitions for Julian Nagelsmann’s side. With Spurs continuing to struggle defensively under Mourinho, with just two Premier League clean sheets all season, it seems as if Upamecano is seen as the ideal man to stabilise the North London club’s back four.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported interest in Upamecano can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly keen on signing Upamecano in January and will be hoping that Daniel Levy and Mourinho can negotiate a deal for the young defender.

What do we think?

Upamecano is currently valued at £45 million by transfermarkt so it would be a huge deal for the club if they were able to bring him in. It would be a surprise if Spurs do make a move for him in January and Mourinho may well use the upcoming Champions League clash with Leipzig as the ideal chance to take a closer look at the 21-year-old before a potential summer move.
