Spurs fans were shocked to hear that midfielder Christian Eriksen was named on the shortlist for EA SPORTS FIFA Team of the Year.

Eriksen was named alongside fellow Spurs players Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Jan Vertonghen on the shortlist much to the surprise of Spurs fans. The Danish midfielder is not popular amongst fans of the North London club at the moment, having established a desire to leave the club over the summer, with performances having steadily dropped since then.

The 27-year-old was also quoted by fans as one of the main reasons behind Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking, with the former Ajax man averaging just a 6.47 rating in the Premier League so far this season. However, it seems as if Eriksen’s performances last season, in which he helped Spurs to the Champions League final, were enough to see him earn a spot on the shortlist.

Did Eriksen deserve his spot on the Team of the Year shortlist?

These Spurs fans were clearly shocked by Eriksen’s inclusion and feel that the Danish midfielder didn’t really deserve his spot on the shortlist.

What do we think?

Although Eriksen is far from popular at Spurs at the moment, due to his current contract situation, his performances last season were fairly good; with eight goals and 12 assists in the Premier League. The £81 million rated man has scored 68 goals for Spurs in 295 appearances and you suspect that he could have been regarded as a legend at the club if it wasn’t for the way in which he will likely leave at the end of the season.
