Spurs fans were full of praise for Jan Vertonghen after the club posted a video of the Belgian defender’s crucial tackle in the weekend win over Bournemouth.
The video, which comes from Spurs’ official club twitter, shows Vertonghen making a last gasp challenge to deny Callum Wilson, who looked sure to make it 3-3 in the dying embers of Saturday’s game. The tackle helped to ensure that it would remain 3-2 to Jose Mourinho’s side and means that Spurs have made it three wins from three under the new manager.
Vertonghen, who signed from Ajax in 2012, has established himself as arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League during his seven years at the North London club, in which time he has made 295 appearances for Spurs. Of course, he could still leave on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires but after the appointment of Mourinho fans are hopeful that he will sign a new deal.
Does Vertonghen deserve a new deal?

One fan even suggested that the tackle had shades of Ledley King, which is pretty accurate as the Englishman put in a number of incredible last-ditch tackles during his time at Spurs, including this one.
Shades of Ledley.

Spurs fans were clearly full of praise for Vertonghen and many now seem to want the Belgian to sign a new deal with the club.
What do we think?
Vertonghen was impressive against the Cherries in Saturday’s win and may well be playing for a new contract under Mourinho. Although he is now 32 he clearly brings a lot of experience to this Spurs side so it will be interesting to see if the new manager deems him worthy of a new deal.
