Some Southampton fans are fuming about the performances of winger Nathan Redmond and feel that he’s been the worst player of the season for the Saints so far.

Southampton have now lost the last two games in the Premier League and their latest one came this past weekend in a loss to West Ham. They endured a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend as well. These two losses have seen the Saints fall back into the relegation zone.

But Southampton did win their two games these losses. They managed to overcome the challenges of Watford and Norwich to temporarily climb out of the drop zone.

Southampton fans: Has Redmond been the worst player of the season?

He's been shambolic!

But a debate enraged on Twitter and it concerned as to who has been the worst player of the season. Some Saints fans pointed their fingers at Nathan Redmond. Some other fans also said that all of them have been pretty bad.

Redmond is currently 25 and hasn’t had the best season of his career by any means. He has played 18 times in all competitions so far this season, racking up a tally of two goals and a single assist so far.

Last season, he had done much better for the Saints. He had played a total of 43 times in all competitions for the club, racking up a tally of nine goals during this time. He had also racked up a tally of five assists.

Redmond joined Southampton from Norwich City in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £10 million. Since then, he has played 147 times in all competitions for the Saints. During this time, he has racked up a tally of 20 goals and a total of 12 assists as well.

What do we think?

Numbers clearly show that the dip in form from Redmond has been immense. And that is leading to an over-reliance on Danny Ings, who has scored nine times in the Premier League this season. He has scored 50% of the club’s goals. That isn’t a good sign. Players like Redmond have to start getting more numbers and the situation will improve.
