Newcastle is said to be targeting Everton’s Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson ahead of the January transfer window.
According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle has spent a ‘large amount of time monitoring‘ Mason Holgate. Another player said to be on the radar is Lewis Gibson, a former Newcastle academy player who joined Everton in 2017. Holgate is 23 years old and has played 11 times in the Premier League this season, adding up to a total of 738 minutes.
Here’s what the Newcastle fans had to say about the latest transfer news:
#NUFC are hoping to pull off a January double deal by signing Everton duo Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson. https://t.co/fqsGJGxBUD

Mid table/Survival ambitions, Nothing changes at NUFC under Ashley, Both players previously had higher stock and chose Everton but now they’ve dropped off NUFC becomes a fallback option.

Holgate what a signing! If we can pull that off. Gibson will be well happy with that. As will replace clarke next summer or fede if one of them leave.

I don’t think that we really need them. We should try to sign some attacking players, and get rid of both Muto & Gayle

Lewis Gibson used to be ours!

Imagine being Steve Bruce to Lee Charnley
SB: Lee we are lacking goals and we can’t rely on big Andy in the long term and Joelinton has produced the goods so far so we need a striker
LC: Steve don’t worry mate I have it covered, how about Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson?

Who would you most like to see join Newcastle?
Holgate
Gibson
Neither
Holgate will be the player out of the two targets that will likely play for the first-team, with Gibson being just 19-years -old. The 23-year-old already has two assists from a centre-back in the Premier League this season.
Have to say if anyone from Everton it should be calvert-lewin not more defenders …

With Manquillo and Fernandez away in January, they could be seen as ready made replacements

What Do We Think?
Mason Holgate would be a very solid signing and would also be a player that can grow, with him being just 23 years old, the centre-back will have plenty of time to develop as a top player. Lewis Gibson will likely just slot back into the academy system but may feature here and there in cup fixtures.
