Newcastle fans have hit back at former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys over his claims of ‘vile abuse‘ from the Magpies fanbase.
Keys wrote this on his blog: “I had hoped one or two of you serial abusers in the North East might’ve had the good grace to withdraw some of your vile abuse.”
Indeed, that particular statement appears to have triggered a defensive reaction from the Magpies fans, with many jumping on Twitter to give their own two thoughts on the situation.
Here’s how the Newcastle fans reacted to Richard Keys claims:
NEW: Richard Keys on receiving ‘vile abuse’, and Steve Bruce’s start at #NUFC https://t.co/RNj20y4trZ

This points comparison to last season Is stupid. Bruce has had Almiron and Saint Maximan from the start of the season. They are key to the counter attacking system working. Rafa had us 7th best in the 2nd half of last season after Almiron arrived. I’ve nothing against Bruce btw.

Dear me @richardajkeys is more obsessed with the @nufc fans than he was with his daughters friend…

Was Richard Keys trying to get a reaction from the fans?
Yes
No
Obviously the abuse claims are not aimed at all Newcastle fans, most likely it’ll be a select few, however, maybe it wasn’t the best idea for Keys to write about the Magpies fans on his blog? As that type of aggravation will always cause a reaction.
Hairy hands deserved it. I thought @ChronicleNUFC weren’t going to bother publishing articles about him.

As long as he doesn’t hit me with his vile hairy hands

What Do We Think?
Both parties are in the wrong here so there are no winners. Richard Keys shouldn’t have written something that he probably knew would gain a negative reaction from the fans, however, he shouldn’t have been receiving abuse anyway, so the fans aren’t 100% in the clear either.
