Newcastle United fans were fuming with striker Dwight Gayle after he squandered a golden opportunity to equalise in their 1-0 loss at Burnley on Saturday.
The 29-year-old was presented with an excellent chance to grab an equaliser for the away side when Joelinton’s cross found him at the near post, but he somehow put the chance wide. Gayle has struggled to even find form in the Premier League for the Magpies since joining from Crystal Palace in 2016, with many fans being of the opinion that the Englishman is far from good enough to play in the top division.
Gayle has made 79 appearances for Newcastle in his three years at the club and has found the net on 29 occasions, often finding himself benched in place of Joelinton or Salomon Rondon in recent Premier League seasons. The 29-year-old came off the bench at Turf Moor for just his fifth substitute appearance of the season but was unable to mark it with a goal, much to the frustration of Magpies fans.
Should Dwight Gayle be sold in January?
Yes
No

Gayle just missed the kind of chance Joelinton would be stoned for, absolutely shocking.
Our strike force is absolute PONY

That was unacceptable for a Premier league striker, dubravka would have put that in the back of the net

These Newcastle fans were clearly not impressed with Gayle’s miss, with it confirming to many that he is not good enough for the Premier League.
What do we think?
It seems baffling that Gayle was regularly able to score goals in the Championship with both Newcastle and West Brom, but has struggled to ever really find form in the top division. The 29-year-old is very much behind the likes of Joelinton and Andy Carroll in the starting striker position and you would expect Steve Bruce to look for a pacey striker to replace the £10.8 million-rated man in January.
