Newcastle United midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng, who was signed by Rafa Benitez back in the summer of 2018 is highly likely going to be released when the 30-year-old’s contract expires with the Magpies.

Sung-Yueng has struggled to get much game time under Steve Bruce, with his last appearance coming against Leicester City in September, a match Newcastle lost 5-0.

In total, the 30-year-old has only received 136 minutes in the Premier League, making him the third-lowest player when ranking in minutes played.

Is Ki Sung-Yueng the worst player at Newcastle?

Yes

Yes

No

No

According to a report by The Northern Echo said: “Jack Colback, Rob Elliot and Ki Sung-Yeung will almost certainly be released when their current deals expire.”

The most amount of game time that the South Korean, who is valued at £4.05 million (as per Transfermarkt), has received in one match, came on the opening day of the season when Newcastle visited Norwich, again the Magpies lost this match 3-1, with Sung-Yueng finishing the match with a WhoScored rating of just 6.26/10.

Surprisingly, at the start of the season, the 30-year-old managed to play for his national side South Korea, when they took on the Philippines; this time he was on the winning team, as his side won 1-0. However, the Newcastle midfielder could only manage to play 58 minutes of the match.

What Do We Think?

We can’t see too many Newcastle United fans getting upset about this one, he’s hardly played all season, making just three appearances, so the 30-year-old has basically already been released as he is cleary deemed surplus to requirements by Steve Bruce. This will likely help to free up some of the wage budget going into January if anything and that, perhaps, makes this positive news for the club.
