Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has hailed his sides “football intelligence” ahead of their weekend fixture versus Norwich City at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking ahead of another action-packed weekend of Premier League football, the 46-year-old will need to make a decision on whether or not he will use his trusted 4-1-4-1 formation or stick with the diamond midfield that saw his side triumph at Villa Park last week.

When quizzed on the set-up he adopted at Aston Villa Rodgers said: “I was delighted, it shows you the football intelligence in the squad.

“We’d used it in pre-season and had a look at some of the principles of it and we used part way through the game against Tottenham. Other than that, we’ve not had to use it.”

TIF Tactics – Flexibility is key

Rodgers’ comments tie in nicely with those of the Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans who told the club’s official website this week that Leicester City’s success stems from their thorough pre-season.

The Foxes’ flexibility could prove key with huge games versus Manchester City, Liverpool and a Carabao Cup quarter-final versus Everton on the horizon. Rodgers’ adjustment opens the door for him to play with two strikers at times and that proved vital as Kelechi Iheanacho came into the side to score a couple of huge goals versus Everton and Aston Villa.

Their ability to switch things up and still be effective shows they are more than just a one-trick pony and strengthens the argument that they are a serious title contender. Currently in second place, the home side will be expected to dispatch Norwich City with relative ease this weekend – keeping the pressure on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who will take on a Watford side with a new manager in Nigel Pearson.
