Pep Guardiola’s former assistant Domenec Torrent is likely to join up with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, handing the Manchester City boss a blow in his search for a new number two after a report earlier on this month stated that the Cityzens were lining Torrent up as Arteta’s potential replacement.

Torrent worked alongside Guardiola at Barcelona and Bayern Munich but left in June 2018 to take over as the Head Coach of New York City FC.

The report in the Daily Mail suggests Torrent, along with Rodolfo Borrell, could be Arsenal bound in order to assist Arteta – a coach for whom they have extremely high hopes. Reports emerged as recently as last week that Guardiola himself could leave the Etihad at the end of this current campaign and if he were forced to undergo a rebuild of his backroom staff, he may not necessarily have the appetite to start over.

Would losing members of his backroom staff signal the end of the Guardiola's City stay?

Arsenal are said to be keen on rediscovering the identity of the club, something that was lost during Unai Emery’s tenure and believe Arteta who has learnt from one of the very best in Pep Guardiola is the man to deliver that.

TIF Tactics – The search for a replacement begins

It remains to be seen who Guardiola will turn to in search of a replacement but we’re sure there will be plenty of candidates interested in working with, arguably, the greatest manager of his generation.

The Catalan looks likely to miss out on his first-choice to replace Arteta but there are plenty of excellent coaches out there and often working with different people can help regarding self-development and could take even the great Pep Guardiola up to the next level.

However, should Arteta leave the Etihad imminently, the club will be hoping there isn’t a knock-on effect and that they can continue to push the likes of Liverpool and Leicester City for the Premier League title.
