Manchester City are reported to have opened negotiations to sign the Argentine wonder kid Pedro De La Vega. Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness) claim that there are ongoing discussions between the Premier League club and Club Atletico Lanus regarding a potential transfer. The Cityzens are said to be willing to pay up to €12m (£10.1m) for the 18-year-old.

De La Vega has yet to establish himself as a first-team player with the Superliga club who currently occupy third place however he has recently become a regular with the Argentina U20’s side.

Portuguese club Sporting were said to be interested in securing the services of the winger using their partnership with Manchester City to subsidise part of the cost. In exchange for City fronting up some of the funds, they would have an option to buy the player later on.

However, this latest report suggests the two partners will now go up against one another in order to secure the signing of De La Vega and if that is to be the case, financially there will only be one winner.

He’s an exciting winger best known for his dribbling technique and ability to shoot from distance according to WhoScored.com. Despite making 11 appearances this season, he has only started on one occasion but has managed to score two goals so far.

One for the future? It would appear so however it remains to be seen whether or not City have seen enough yet from the winger to warrant the investment.
